I have been taking Metocard XL 50 daily for the past year for primary hypertension, but my blood pressure remains high at 160/100. Since my cholesterol, blood sugar, and other test results are normal, what alternative medicine can I take to bring my blood pressure down to a normal level of 120/80?

A blood pressure of 160/100 mmHg while taking Metocard XL 50 indicates that your hypertension is not adequately controlled. Beta-blockers like Metocard are generally not preferred as first-line therapy for primary hypertension unless you have specific heart conditions. Since your other tests are normal, your doctor may transition you to or add highly effective first-line medications, such as ACE inhibitors (e.g., Lisinopril), Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARBs, e.g., Telmisartan), or Calcium Channel Blockers (e.g., Amlodipine). Please consult your physician to safely adjust your therapy. Do not stop taking Metocard abruptly, as sudden withdrawal can cause a dangerous spike in your heart rate and blood pressure.
