I have developed a furry tongue after taking Metrogyl 400mg. What medicine should I take to treat this side effect?

A 'furry' tongue is a common, usually harmless side effect of Metrogyl (metronidazole), often caused by a temporary imbalance of oral bacteria or mild oral thrush (yeast overgrowth). Do not start any new medication on your own. Instead, practice good oral hygiene by gently brushing your tongue with a soft toothbrush or using a tongue scraper, and rinse your mouth frequently with water. If the coating is painful, presents as thick white patches, or persists after you finish your Metrogyl course, please consult your doctor. They can examine your mouth and prescribe an antifungal medication if oral thrush is confirmed.
