A painful, pimple-like swelling under the tragus is most commonly due to a small boil, infected hair follicle, or localised skin infection in the ear area, and in most cases, it improves with simple care. You can apply a mild topical antibiotic ointment as advised and keep the area clean and dry, but avoid squeezing or pressing it, as this can worsen the infection. Warm compresses for 10-15 minutes, 3-4 times a day, can help reduce pain and swelling. For pain relief, a simple medicine like paracetamol is usually enough, and stronger painkillers like Diclogem are not always necessary unless the pain is severe. If the swelling increases, becomes redder or more painful, starts discharging pus, or if you develop a fever or spreading swelling, you should see a doctor, as you may need proper oral antibiotics or drainage.
