A patient has cataracts in both eyes, what are the best medicines or treatment options available?
Currently, there are no medications, eye drops, or exercises that can cure or reverse cataracts. The only effective treatment is a highly common and safe surgical procedure. During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens (intraocular lens or IOL). Because you have cataracts in both eyes, the surgeon will typically operate on one eye first, allow it to heal for a couple of weeks, and then perform the procedure on the second eye. In the early stages, new prescription glasses or brighter lighting can help, but surgery is the only definitive cure when cataracts begin to interfere with your daily activities.
