I have too much dandruff along with a very dry scalp. What treatment or hair care routine may help improve this problem?
Excess dandruff with a very dry scalp can occur when the scalp loses moisture, leading to irritation and flaking. Cold weather, harsh shampoos, hot water, stress, poor nutrition, fungal overgrowth, and irregular scalp care may all worsen dryness and dandruff together. The scalp may feel tight, itchy, rough, or flaky, especially after washing the hair. Treatment usually focuses on balancing scalp moisture without increasing oil buildup. Mild anti-dandruff shampoos containing ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione may help reduce flakes and itching, while gentle moisturising scalp lotions or light non-sticky oils may improve dryness when used in moderation. Washing with very hot water and frequent harsh scrubbing should be avoided, because they can further aggravate the scalp. Sufficient hydration, protein intake, nuts, seeds, and proper sleep may also promote a healthier scalp over time. Thick yellow scales, redness, painful patches or continuous hair fall can indicate more severe scalp inflammation and may require treatment beyond regular hair care products.
