I keep getting recurrent mouth ulcers, and they take nearly 1 month to heal on their own. The ulcers become very painful while eating, and sometimes they also itch. What treatment can help heal these ulcers faster and prevent them from coming back?
Recurrent mouth ulcers that take a long time to heal can happen because of vitamin deficiencies, stress, poor sleep, acidity, spicy foods, sharp teeth, low immunity, hormonal changes, or irritation from toothpaste and certain foods. When ulcers keep returning or remain painful for many weeks, the body may need proper evaluation to identify the underlying cause, rather than only temporary relief treatment. Keeping the mouth clean and avoiding spicy, very hot, or acidic foods may help reduce irritation while the ulcers heal. Drinking enough water, improving sleep, reducing stress, and eating foods rich in iron, folic acid, and vitamins may also support faster healing in some people. Avoid repeatedly touching or scratching the ulcers because this can worsen pain and delay recovery. Some people may need medical treatment such as vitamin supplements, medicated mouth gels, or treatment for underlying infection or acidity, depending on the cause. The right treatment should be decided after proper examination. Consult a doctor or dentist if ulcers keep returning frequently, last more than 2-3 weeks, become very large, cause fever, weight loss, difficulty swallowing, or if white or red patches develop inside the mouth.
