Hi, I have Thalassemia Intermedia. My haemoglobin is between 4 and 7 g/dl. My doctor has recommended that I take a calcirol sachet and 500 mg of Gemcal for vitamin D3. I approached the chemist for a substitute, and he recommended Ostebone Plus (500 mg Ca+500ui D3). Can I take Ostebone Plus in place of Gemcal? I think it's more cost-effective than purchasing Gemcal 500.

Ostebone Plus may occasionally be used in place of Gemcal 500 if your doctor recommended calcium and vitamin D supplements for Thalassemia Intermedia, provided that the calcium and vitamin D strengths are comparable. Before switching brands, it is best to check with your doctor or pharmacist because the precise dosage and kind of vitamin D may vary. People with thalassemia frequently require close monitoring of their bones, iron levels, and general nutrition, so continue routine follow-up and blood testing.
