I have had a blocked nose for the last month and have been using Otrivin Nasal Spray 5 to 6 times a day, even at night. Recently, I also started feeling chest heaviness and difficulty breathing. Could this be due to the spray or another problem?

Using Otrivin Nasal Spray many times a day for several weeks can cause rebound nasal congestion, where the nose becomes more blocked as the effect of the spray wears off. This often makes people depend on the spray more frequently, especially at night. Overuse may also lead to dryness, irritation, palpitations, chest heaviness, or a feeling of breathing discomfort in some individuals. A blocked nose for one month may also be related to allergy, sinus inflammation, infection, or a deviated nasal septum. Steam inhalation, saline nasal rinses, hydration, and reducing dust exposure may help ease symptoms naturally. Doctors commonly use steroid nasal sprays or allergy medicines for longer-term control instead of frequent decongestant spray use. Since you are now having chest heaviness and breathing difficulty, seek medical care soon to rule out asthma, allergy-related breathing problems, or side effects from excessive spray use.
