Frequent nosebleeds occurring 5 to 6 times a day should not be ignored, especially if they have started recently or are becoming more severe. Common causes include dry air, nose picking, allergies, frequent sneezing, sinus infections, or irritation from dust and smoke. Sometimes, high blood pressure, stress, blood-thinning medicines, or low platelet levels may also lead to repeated bleeding. In some cases, frequent nosebleeds may be linked to nasal polyps or blood-clotting problems. To manage a nosebleed, sit upright and lean slightly forward. Pinch the soft part of your nose firmly for about 10 to 15 minutes while breathing through your mouth. Avoid lying down or tilting your head back, as blood may flow into the throat. Applying a cold compress over the nose may help. Keep the inside of the nose moist with saline drops or a thin layer of petroleum jelly, and drink enough water. Because the bleeding is happening many times daily, you should see an ENT doctor soon to identify the exact cause and receive appropriate treatment.
