I am taking Paxidep CR (12.5 mg) twice a day and Oleanz (10 mg) once a day for depression, anxiety, and obsessive rumination. Since starting these medications, I have been experiencing speaking difficulties. What should I do to manage or address this side effect?
Speaking difficulties can sometimes occur as a side effect of your medications, paroxetine and olanzapine. Olanzapine, in particular, can cause muscle relaxation, mild sedation, or dry mouth, which can temporarily affect your speech. Please do not worry, as this is a known and manageable side effect. It is very important that you do not stop or change your medication dosage suddenly, as this can cause withdrawal or worsen your symptoms. Instead, contact your prescribing doctor soon. They can safely evaluate your speech difficulty and may adjust your dosage, switch to an alternative medication, or provide strategies to help manage this side effect.
