I have been suffering from constipation since 2012. Despite maintaining a healthy diet and trying various remedies, I still depend on medicines such as Laxobig or churan to have a bowel movement. If I do not take these medicines, I may not have a bowel movement for 5?7 days. Could you please suggest what might be causing this chronic constipation and recommend appropriate treatment or further evaluation?

Possible Causes of Chronic Constipation
Chronic constipation may result from functional disorders, slow GI transit, pelvic floor dysfunction, medication side effects, or other underlying health issues.
Role and Composition of Laxobig and Churan
Laxobig combines liquid paraffin, magnesium hydroxide, and sodium picosulfate, serving as a lubricant, osmotic, and stimulant laxative respectively. Churan typically consists of herbal laxatives.
Appropriate Treatment and Management
a. Lifestyle: Increase dietary fiber and fluid intake.
b. Laxative Use: Gradually reduce reliance and consult for alternative options like Pegfiber under supervision.
Need for Further Evaluation
Investigate further through detailed medical history, physical exam, and possibly colonoscopy or transit studies. Referral to a gastroenterologist is advised if conditions do not improve.
Red Flags and When to Seek Urgent Care
Seek immediate medical attention for symptoms such as significant weight loss, rectal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, or signs of obstruction.
