What is the cause of my dental pain, and what should I do?
Dental pain can have many causes, such as tooth decay, cavities, abscesses, gum inflammation (gingivitis), gum infection, or injury. To ease the pain, rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water and avoid very hot, cold, or sugary foods. You may take over-the-counter pain relievers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen for temporary relief. Maintain good oral hygiene, but avoid aggressive brushing near the painful area. If the pain lasts more than 2 days, worsens, or is accompanied by swelling, fever, or difficulty opening your mouth, please see a dentist promptly to identify the exact cause and receive appropriate treatment.
