I have high blood pressure, around 160/95, and also feel anxious most of the time. What medicines or treatments can help manage both conditions?
High blood pressure around 160/95, along with frequent anxiety, may increase the risk of headache, palpitations, chest discomfort, poor sleep and long-term heart or kidney problems if not properly controlled. Stress and anxiety may temporarily raise blood pressure even more, while uncontrolled blood pressure can also worsen nervousness and physical tension. Blood pressure medicines such as calcium channel blockers, ARBs, beta blockers and other antihypertensive drugs are commonly used, depending on age, heart health, diabetes status and kidney function. Anxiety treatment may include stress reduction, counselling, relaxation techniques, proper sleep, regular exercise and sometimes anti-anxiety medicines, if symptoms are significant. Reducing salt intake, avoiding smoking and excess caffeine, maintaining a healthy weight, and regular walking may help improve both blood pressure and anxiety gradually. Avoid stopping or changing your blood pressure medicines on your own, as sudden fluctuations may be harmful. Seek medical care if you develop a severe headache, chest pain, breathing difficulty, dizziness, or blood pressure readings that remain very high despite treatment.
