What are pimples, and what causes them to develop on the skin?
Pimples are small, inflamed spots that develop when hair follicles become blocked by excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. They commonly appear as red bumps, sometimes with a white or yellow centre, on the face, neck, back, or shoulders. Pimples are common in teenagers but can affect anyone and are often caused by hormonal changes, stress, certain medicines, or unsuitable skincare products. Maintaining good skin hygiene, avoiding picking or squeezing pimples, using appropriate skincare products, and, in some cases, medical treatments such as antibiotic gels can help manage them.
