ERDOSTEINE belongs to the expectorant or mucolytic agent class. It is generally used to treat the symptoms of worsening short, severe episodes of chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis is a long-term inflammation of the airways (bronchi) in the lungs. Chronic bronchitis is a type of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) defined as a productive cough of more than three months occurring within two years.
ERDOSTEINE contains Erdosteine, a mucolytic agent (cough/sputum thinner). It works by modulating the sputum viscosity in the respiratory tract, making it more fluid and less thick, increasing the mucociliary rate and allowing mucus removal from the respiratory tract.
You should take ERDOSTEINE exactly as your doctor has instructed. This medication may have some common adverse effects, including epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, taste changes, and heartburn. The majority of these ERDOSTEINE negative effects subside over time without the need for medical care. However, consult a doctor if the adverse effects worsen or persist.
It is recommended not to use if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to erdosteine or any other ingredients present in ERDOSTEINE or if you suffer from severe liver failure, severely decreased kidney function, and have a stomach ulcer or deficiency of the cystathionine-synthetase enzyme (metabolic condition). The use of erdosteine in pregnant or breastfeeding women is not recommended. It should be used in children only if prescribed by the doctor.

Epigastric pain (pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen)
Do not take it if you are allergic to any ingredients in ERDOSTEINE or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use ERDOSTEINE in more than prescribed doses or longer duration as it may cause adverse effects. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition, sensitives and all the medicines you take before taking ERDOSTEINE to rule out any side effects. Mucolytics can cause bronchial blockage in children under the age of two. In fact, due to the respiratory tract's physiological characteristics, bronchial mucus's drainage capacity is limited at this age. As a result, they should not be used on children under the age of two. Using ERDOSTEINE in people with severe liver or kidney failure and stomach or peptic ulcers is contraindicated.
Drug-Drug Interactions: No adverse interactions have been reported.
Drug-Food Interactions: Limit or avoid the consumption of alcohol.
Drug-Disease Interactions: ERDOSTEINE may interact with various disease conditions, including severe liver failure, kidney failure (severely decreased kidney function), and stomach or peptic ulcers.
Avoid consumption of alcohol during therapy with erdosteine.
The safety of ERDOSTEINE in pregnant women is unknown. Therefore, the use of erdosteine in pregnancy is not recommended.
It is unknown whether ERDOSTEINE is excreted in human milk. Therefore, the use of erdosteine in breast-feeding women is not recommended.
ERDOSTEINE does not impact your ability to drive or use machinery.
Caution should be exercised, and if you have mild liver impairment, your doctor may modify the dose as needed. It is recommended not to take it if you suffer from severe liver impairment.
Caution should be exercised. Inform your doctor if you have a history of kidney diseases/conditions. It is recommended not to take ERDOSTEINE if you suffer from severe kidney impairment.
ERDOSTEINE should be used with caution in children if prescribed by a doctor.
Avoid dairy products such as milk, as it may increase mucus production.
Avoid processed or refined foods to relieve cough; replace them with baked foods, fried foods, white bread, white pasta, french fries, sugary desserts, and chips with green leafy vegetables.
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dry throat while you cough and loosen mucus.
Avoid citrus fruits as they may worsen the cough.
Eat fruits rich in water content, such as pears, watermelon, peaches and pineapples.
You should inform your doctor that you are taking ERDOSTEINE before undergoing any medical tests or surgery.
It is advised to stop using ERDOSTEINE if your cough persists for over a week and consult your doctor.
