About NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN

NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN belongs to the group of medications called ‘antihypertensives’ primarily used in the treatment of hypertension. Hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic (long-term) condition in which blood pressure is elevated persistently at higher than normal levels. If left untreated, this condition can increase the risk of heart-related diseases like heart attack, heart failure, stroke, irregular heartbeat and other complications.

NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN contains Nebivolol and Valsartan. Nebivolol is a beta-blocker. It works specifically on the heart to reduce heart rate and lower blood pressure making it easier for the heart to pump blood to all parts of the body. Valsartan is an angiotensin-II receptor blocker (ARB). Angiotensin narrows the blood vessels increasing the blood pressure, therefore, blocking angiotensin can result in widening of the narrowed blood vessels. Together, NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN can effectively treat hypertension or high blood pressure.

You should take this medicine exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The common side-effects of NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN are nausea, vomiting, bradycardia (slow heartbeats), dizziness, hypotension (low blood pressure), hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels in the blood) and elevated liver enzymes. Inform your doctor immediately if any of these side-effects persist or get worse.

It is not recommended to take NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN if you are allergic to any contents of it. It is also not recommended for patients with ‘sick sinus syndrome’ (unless you have a pacemaker), heart block, severe heart failure, severe liver disease and history of bradycardia (slow heartbeat) that have resulted in fainting. NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN should not be used in children and adolescents below 18 years of age, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. It should be used with caution in elderly people. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase the risk of side-effects. NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN may cause dizziness, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you feel dizzy.

Medicinal Benefits

NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN contains ‘Nebivolol’ and ‘Valsartan’ which is a fixed-dose combination used to treat hypertension in adults. It works by lowering the body’s production of substances that could increase heart rate and also widens narrowed blood vessels. It allows the blood to flow more smoothly in the blood vessels. It shows greater efficacy and tolerability when compared to monotherapies. It helps to reduce serious complications of hypertension such as heart attack, stroke and end-stage kidney disease.

Directions for Use

Swallow it as a whole with water; do not crush, break or chew it.

In-Depth Precautions and Warning

Drug Warnings

Before taking NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN, inform your doctor if you have decreased potassium levels in the blood, kidney disease or on dialysis, liver disease, heart disease, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), are on a low-salt diet, and dehydration (due to vomiting or diarrhea).  If you notice dizziness, confusion, weakness and fainting while using NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN, inform your doctor immediately. Do not exercise heavily or avoid hot weather as excess sweating may lead to dehydration, thereby resulting in low blood pressure and electrolyte imbalances. Severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhea may also lead to dehydration resulting in low blood pressure. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, extreme tiredness, irregular heartbeat or difficulty breathing, as NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN may worsen symptoms of heart failure in some patients. If you notice stomach pain, difficulty breathing, numbness in the hands, feet or lips, weakness in the legs and irregular heartbeat, inform your doctor immediately. These symptoms can be a sign of hyperkalemia (high potassium levels in the blood).

    Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

Hypertension: It is a chronic (long-term) condition in which blood pressure is elevated persistently at higher than normal levels. It occurs when the blood’s force against the wall of blood vessels is too high. This condition can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when blood supply to the heart is blocked). Additionally, high blood pressure also causes damage to the brain, kidneys and eyes. The risk of high blood pressure complications increases with the following: obesity, smoking, diabetes, alcohol intake, lack of physical inactivity, stress and kidney diseases.
