My child has had dandruff on the scalp for the past 2 months, along with skin boils. She was advised to use Sebowash shampoo. Will this help, or is any other treatment needed?

Dandruff in children can be caused by scalp oil build-up, fungal overgrowth, sweating or scalp inflammation. Skin boils may sometimes develop separately due to bacterial infection, scratching, poor hygiene, or a weakened skin barrier from constant itching. When dandruff and boils occur together, repeated scratching and scalp inflammation may increase the chance of infection spreading on the skin. Sebowash shampoo may help reduce dandruff and scalp flakes because anti-dandruff shampoos commonly work by controlling fungal growth and excess scalp oil. Using the shampoo as advised regularly and keeping the scalp clean may gradually improve itching and flaking. However, boils may require additional treatment depending on their size, pain, pus formation or recurrence. Good hygiene, regular hair washing, clean towels and avoiding scratching may also help reduce scalp inflammation and skin infections. Painful boils, fever, pus discharge, spreading redness or patchy hair loss can sometimes indicate severe scalp or skin infection and may require additional medical treatment beyond shampoo alone.
