I have been suffering from dandruff since the age of 19. How can I treat it?
Dandruff is a common scalp condition that often occurs due to excess scalp oil, a harmless yeast on the scalp, or dry skin and sensitivity. It is long-lasting in some people but can usually be controlled with regular care. The most effective treatment is using a medicated anti-dandruff shampoo containing ingredients such as ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or selenium sulfide, which help reduce flakes and itching. These shampoos should be used 2 to 3 times a week. Leave the shampoo on the scalp for a few minutes before rinsing so that it can work properly. Additionally, maintaining good scalp hygiene is important. Wash your hair regularly with a mild shampoo and avoid very hot water. Try not to apply heavy oils or hair products that can worsen buildup. Managing stress and eating a balanced diet may also help improve scalp health over time. If the dandruff persists despite treatment, it is best to consult a doctor or dermatologist to check for underlying conditions, such as seborrhoeic dermatitis or psoriasis, and to receive appropriate treatment if needed.
