I have been experiencing a dry cough for the past six days. There is no sore throat, no fever, and no phlegm. The cough is sometimes sharp or prickly and sometimes mild. Inhaling Amrunjan temporarily stops the cough for about 30 minutes. I have tried dry cough syrups (Koffarest and another) for six days with no improvement. What could be the cause of my cough, and what is the best next step for treatment?
Since the cough hasn’t improved with over‑the‑counter syrups, the next best step is to see a physician. They can determine whether it’s allergy‑related, reflux, or airway sensitivity, and guide you to the proper treatment; sometimes inhalers or anti‑reflux therapy work better than syrups. Alongside medications, they may also recommend diet and lifestyle changes to help manage the cough more effectively.
