Is leucoderma a hereditary or genetic disease?
Leucoderma, also known as vitiligo, is not strictly hereditary, but genetics can make some people more susceptible. If a family member has vitiligo, your risk is slightly higher, but it does not mean you will definitely develop it. The condition occurs when the immune system attacks the cells that produce skin colour. Factors such as stress, skin injury, or certain illnesses can trigger or worsen it. Thus, both genetic predisposition and other factors contribute to its development.
