To apply azithromycin eye ointment safely, first wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back, look upward, and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the tube close to your eye without letting the tip touch your eye or eyelashes. Squeeze a thin ribbon (about half an inch) of the ointment into the pocket. Close your eye gently for one to two minutes, blinking a few times to spread the medicine. Temporary blurry vision is completely normal and will clear up quickly. Do not touch the tube tip to keep it sterile. Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
