Why did one of my molluscum skin bumps turn into a hard, painful wound while I was using Tretnin 0.05% cream, Propysalic soap, Zincovit, and Aciloc, and will the newly prescribed antibiotic help heal it?
Topical treatments like tretinoin (Tretnin) can cause localized skin irritation. Additionally, when your immune system actively fights the molluscum virus, or if the irritated area develops a secondary bacterial infection, the bump can become hard, inflamed, and painful. Your newly prescribed antibiotic will indeed help. It is designed to target and clear any bacterial infection, which will reduce the pain, swelling, and promote safe healing of the wound. Please continue to use your medications exactly as your doctor advised.
