I am receiving Streptomycin injections three times a week for Category II bone tuberculosis. Is lower back and side pain a common side effect of this medication?
Lower back and side pain is not a common direct side effect of streptomycin. However, because streptomycin can occasionally affect the kidneys, this pain could sometimes indicate kidney irritation. More commonly, since you are being treated for bone tuberculosis, the pain may actually be related to the infection itself, especially if it affects your spine or surrounding tissues. Please do not worry, but do contact your doctor promptly. They can easily run a simple blood test to check your kidney function and evaluate your back to ensure your tuberculosis treatment is progressing safely and effectively.
