For rainy days, the best option is a wide-toed, completely waterproof boot that doesn?t squeeze or rub your toe. Alternatively, you can wear a comfortable orthopaedic shoe and cover it with a medical-grade waterproof cast protector or a secure plastic bag sealed with medical tape. Avoid tight rain boots, as pressure can disrupt the healing nail bed. If your gauze, povidone-iodine (Betadine), or chloramphenicol dressing does get damp, please change it immediately.
