My mother has had watery loose motions for the past 12 days, along with a lot of stomach gurgling sounds, but no pain. She is feeling very weak. We consulted two doctors and took the prescribed medicines, but there has been no improvement. What tests should she undergo to find the cause?
Your mother should undergo a stool examination to check for infections, parasites, or inflammation. Blood tests, such as a complete blood count, electrolytes, and kidney function, are also important due to her weakness and prolonged diarrhoea. If symptoms persist, her doctor may advise a colonoscopy and endoscopy. Ensure she drinks plenty of water or oral rehydration fluids to prevent dehydration.
