To help manage the condition, keep the area clean and dry, wear loose cotton clothing, and avoid shaving or using deodorants that irritate your skin. Applying warm compresses to the area may help reduce pain and swelling. Try not to squeeze or burst the boils, as this can worsen the infection and may lead to scarring. Lifestyle changes, such as stopping smoking and maintaining a healthy weight, can also help reduce flare-ups in some people. A doctor may prescribe antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, or medicated creams depending on the severity of the condition. In more serious cases, minor procedures or surgery may be needed.
