I have been prescribed Droxyl 500 and Ascazin Tab (both twice a day) and have noticed diarrhoea since starting these medications. Is this normal? Should I stop?

Mild diarrhoea can happen with Droxyl 500 and Ascazin, as both medicines may upset the stomach. Do not stop the antibiotic on your own. Drink plenty of fluids, such as ORS, and eat light food. If diarrhoea becomes severe, bloody, or lasts more than 2-3 days, consult your doctor.

  1. Is diarrhea normal?

    • Diarrhea is a common side effect of Cefadroxil (Droxyl 500) due to its impact on gut bacteria. Zinc supplements like Ascazin can also cause stomach upset, though less frequently.
  2. Should you stop the medications?

    • Do not stop taking these medications without consulting your doctor. Stopping antibiotics prematurely can lead to incomplete treatment.
  3. What to do?

    • Stay hydrated and avoid foods that may irritate your stomach. Inform your healthcare provider about the diarrhea for further advice. If symptoms worsen or include severe pain, blood in stool, or fever, seek medical attention immediately.
