I am taking K-Glim M2 and Glycomet 500 SR twice daily, but my fasting sugar is still around 185. I stopped alcohol two months ago, and since then my sugar levels have increased. Earlier, when I used to drink, my sugars were better controlled with K-Glim M2 and Maxformin 750. Why has my sugar increased after stopping alcohol, and what should I do to bring it under control?
Sometimes, after stopping alcohol, blood sugar can rise temporarily because alcohol can lower sugar levels artificially, so your readings may now reflect your true levels. To bring sugar under control, continue your diabetes medicines as prescribed, monitor your blood sugar regularly, follow a diabetes-friendly diet (limit sugar, refined carbs, and fried foods; eat vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein), exercise daily, and maintain a healthy weight. Do not change your medicines on your own; talk to your doctor if your sugars remain high, as your doses or combination may need adjustment.
