Hello Doctor,
I have been experiencing a recurring scalp issue, especially during the summer season. It usually starts with itching on the scalp, and if it progresses, small painful bumps (boils) appear, sometimes with pus and slight spreading.
Last year, I had a similar problem and received an injection, after which it improved. However, this year the symptoms have started again at the early stage (itching).
My environment is quite hot, and I tend to sweat more, which seems to trigger the condition. I would like to know:
Whether this is scalp folliculitis or a fungal infection
Whether using ketoconazole 2% shampoo is sufficient at this stage
If I need any lotion or oral medication to prevent it from worsening
Kindly advise on the correct treatment and preventive steps.
Thank you
Your scalp problem may be due to folliculitis, a fungal infection, or any other medical condition, but because the symptoms overlap, a thorough medical examination is essential to identify the exact cause. Only after confirming the diagnosis can the doctor prescribe the most appropriate treatment, which may include medicated shampoos, topical applications, or oral medicines if needed. Please avoid self‑medication, and in the meantime, simple preventive steps such as keeping the scalp clean, washing after sweating, avoiding heavy oils, and reducing tight headgear can help until you see a dermatologist.
