Muscle stiffness, bad posture, cervical strain, arthritis, or decreased blood circulation in the muscles during cold weather are frequently linked to shoulder and neck pain that gets worse. Wear scarves or warm clothing to keep your neck and shoulders warm; prevent prolonged exposure to cold air; perform posture exercises and light stretching; apply a warm compress or hot water bag for 15 to 20 minutes; and refrain from sleeping in uncomfortable postures. If prescribed by a physician, mild painkillers or muscle relaxants may be helpful. If the discomfort worsens, results in weakness, dizziness, numbness or tingling in the arms, or lasts for several weeks, please see a physiotherapist or orthopaedic physician.
