Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a long-term gut condition where the bowel becomes more sensitive and does not work in a regular way. Many patients improve by avoiding trigger foods such as excess dairy, oily foods, caffeine, and certain high fermentable foods. A structured diet plan, such as a low FODMAP diet under medical guidance, can be helpful. Regular meals, good hydration, and increasing fibre slowly may also help. Stress and anxiety can worsen IBS, so relaxation techniques, regular exercise, and sometimes counselling or cognitive behavioural therapy are useful.
