Mifegest Kit is a medication used for medical termination of pregnancy up to 63 days from the last menstrual period and can also be used in the second trimester.
🩺 How Mifegest Kit Works
It contains two drugs: Mifepristone, which blocks the hormone progesterone needed to maintain pregnancy, and Misoprostol, which causes uterine contractions to expel the pregnancy. These are taken sequentially under medical supervision.
🩺 Treatment Schedule
- Day 1: Take one tablet of Mifepristone (200 mg) after medical counseling.
- Day 2-3: Return after 36-48 hours to take Misoprostol (800 mcg) orally or vaginally.
- Day 7-14: Follow-up visit to confirm completion of abortion; further visits may be needed if incomplete.
⚠️ Possible Side Effects and Precautions
Common side effects include nausea, cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and bleeding. If bleeding is heavy or does not stop, seek immediate medical care. Do not stop the medication without consulting your doctor to avoid incomplete abortion. Inform your doctor if you have had ectopic pregnancy, use an intrauterine device, have bleeding disorders, heart problems, or are breastfeeding.
🩺 Important Advice
Avoid strenuous activities like heavy exercise or driving during treatment. Ultrasound may be used to confirm abortion completion as absence of bleeding does not guarantee it.
