I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in June 2013 and am currently taking Vegaz OD Tablet three times daily along with calcium and folic acid. I had a flare-up last year that was treated with Budesonide CR and hydrocortisone enemas. The bleeding has now recurred. What should I do, and are there any additional risks?
Recurrent bleeding suggests a new flare-up of your ulcerative colitis, indicating that your current therapy with Vegaz OD Tablet (Mesalazine) may not be sufficient. You should contact your doctor or gastroenterologist promptly for an urgent evaluation and potential adjustment of your treatment, which may include a short course of corticosteroids similar to your previous flare. If left untreated, persistent inflammation can lead to anaemia, heavy blood loss, and an increased long-term risk of colorectal cancer.
